Bride and groom, outdoor humanist ceremony in summertime Northern Ireland

FAQs

Is a humanist wedding ceremony legal?
Yes! Humanist wedding ceremonies gained legal recognition in Northern Ireland in 2018 giving couples the option of a highly personalised ceremony.  You can find more information about the legalities of a humanist ceremony in Northern Ireland here
I am also available if you are planning a vow renewal or to conduct a symbolic wedding without the legalities.

Who can have a humanist ceremony?

Humanism is all about inclusivity, tolerance, fairness, and treating people kindly and with respect .

If these values resonate with you, and you are looking for a personal ceremony that celebrates your unique love, then a humanist ceremony is the perfect choice.

Where can the ceremony be held?
I am licenced to conduct ceremonies across Northern Ireland. Another amazing element of humanist ceremonies is that they can be held in almost* any location, indoors or outdoors.

*Excludes churches or registry offices.

What does a humanist ceremony look like?
A humanist ceremony is tailored to you, and you have the scope to make the ceremony look how you've always imagined, no matter how traditional or unique that may be.

Many people opt to have readings, music, vows, and symbolic acts.  These can be discussed further during a consultation. Ultimately my job is to work with you to shape the perfect ceremony.
Typically a ceremony lasts 30-40 minutes, but this is tailored to you and dependent on what you wish to include.

What fees are involved?

  1. Your celebrant fee

  2. Registration fee (paid directly to the council area of the venue you are getting married in)

  3. UK Humanist processing fee

For more information on these fees please get in touch.

When should we book our humanist celebrant?

To avoid disappointment, it is best to book your celebrant as soon as you have your wedding date confirmed. I personally take a limited number of bookings each year so that I can really dedicate and focus my time on each couple.
